Have you ever loved someone or had a desire to be loved? The rush you feel when you are around that person and the smile you always keep even when they aren’t present? The desire to share out the true you with no fear of being judged and the hope of being accepted as you are? Have you ever wanted to feel needed, appreciated, loved, listened to and wanted? To have someone stand up for you and say “this is my beloved”? Ever walked down the streets and watched guys hold hands, hug and simply finding it hard to keep their hands off each other and asked yourself when you will have such a life?
Well I don’t know about you but I know I have had such moments. Times when I felt alone, unwanted, worthless in this life and just kept to myself because I thought it would hurt less if I was the only one that knew the situation I was in. Times when I looked at other people and envied the joy they had. “Don’t they have problems” I would ask myself. “Am I the only one who seems to be burdened with past experiences, past mistakes and guilt that accompanied all this? Or maybe am the problem, is my character not lovable enough, am I that difficult of a person to put up with or am I expecting too much from people that I always get disappointed in the end?”
With time we need to realize something. The feeling of Joy and happiness is not based on what people say or do, it isn’t based on the families we are born into, not based on our past experiences, not based on what we have; may it be material wealth or the flock of people around us (which reminds me, you can have a million people around you but still feel lonely) it’s not even based on the husbands or wives we will get one day and the families we will raise. Joy comes from one amazing Supreme Being, who knew of our existence before time began( Jeremiah 1:5; “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”), who watched as we came to this world with already planned purposes and destinies( Jeremiah 29:11; “For I know the thoughts that I have towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”), who picked us up from the dirt and cleaned us( Ezekiel 16:9; “Then I washed you in water; yes, thoroughly washed off your blood, and anointed you with oil.”) who promised to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5; “Let your conduct be without covetousness, and be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said; “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”). His name; God, Yahweh, Creator and Maker, King of Kings, Lord of Lords.
Jeremiah 1:5; “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Ezekiel 16:9; “Then I washed you in water; yes, thoroughly washed off your blood, and anointed you with oil.”
In him we as Christians live today and have our being because his promises are true his love is Pure and unflinching, it’s unconditional and ever present. The story in Ezekiel chapter 16 tells it best. When we were cast out and unwanted, he found us, broke all the chains of bondage we had, spoke a word in our lives that caused us to thrive and grow, covered our nakedness, cleaned us up from the filth we had indulged ourselves in, he clothed us with fine linen worth royalty and gave us all the valuable things we could have ever wanted, placed a crown on each of our heads and called us His own. What love is greater than this? Why do we keep looking so hard for this thing called love from people yet they themselves could not even match up to the love that God had shown to us?
Is it simply our nature as Christians or rather human beings to forget how much God has done for us and try to replace him with things of this world? We exalt ourselves due to the pride that forms in us when we receive his glory, we exalt simple things like machinery and gadgets making them take center stage in our lives while allowing all our decisions to be guided by what our friends think is best for us rather than what God would want. We slowly replace God in our lives and don’t even take time to note what we are doing. It’s time we took this walk of salvation a bit more seriously. God is Patient and his Grace and mercies are sufficient but that does not mean we have free will to do whatever we want only because we know he will still accept us after we repent. It’s time we made a prayer and told God to help us love him more than we love people. Because until we understand the love of God will we learn what true love is and how to love our fellow men.
So if you are like me and you were asking yourselves similar questions, then I guess we have the answer now. Love God, seek him and serve him and all those other things you desire will be added to you. Honestly God even gave his son to suffer and be shamed so that he can redeem us from sin. What more do we want God to do to show us how much he loves us?
